I was given my first and only lesson in fly fishing from my grandfather, and a larger-than-life outdoorsman, Uncle Dan. I was twelve; it was opening day in Giles County, Virginia.
“10 and 2.”
“When you stop cracking that leader like a whip you can come with us.”
With that they left… without me.
That intricate lesson began a furious passion that has led me across the country; from east to west in pursuit of wild trout – only to come back to where it all began.
In 2005 I was part of establishing Tangent Outdoors & Cascade Café, which I now manage. We are purveyors of fine, high quality, middle-of-the-road fishing equipment, and tying materials. I still ply the waters of Big and Little Stony Creek with fond memories and lessons learned from some of the earliest fly fishermen in the area.
